Stranger Things Makeup

It’s amazing what you can do with makeup nowadays. Scary, even. As Halloween is upon us, here are some of the best bits of scary makeup we can find. Warning – there may be content that might make some people freak out a bit. You have been warned…

Sizing up your eyes for surgery is definitely something to do around Halloween. Looks painfully realistic!

We would definitely be creeped out if this monster came at us…! Don’t want to get any of that goo on us either…

No Man’s Sky – 2 Months On

October 12, 2016

Last month, Hello Games released their long-awaited space exploration game, No Man’s Sky. Following awe-inspiring teasers and stunning visuals at E3 and other gaming showcases, the world was thoroughly excited for this game. If you’ve been under a rock for the past couple of years and have not heard of No Man’s Sky, the game’s website describes it as “… a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy…” and the gameplay trailer looked a little bit like this back in 2014…

However, since its release to Playstation and PC back in August, it’s received quite a lot of hate and damning comments from pissed off gamers. Personally, I can see why this might have happened. I’ll say this now: this isn’t a game for everyone.

If you’re the sort of person who doesn’t like open world-like RPGs, it’s not for you. If you like open world RPGs but you’re more likely to follow the main quest than roam about the map, it’s not for you. If, like me, you’re the sort of person who wanders around Skyrim getting distracted by trees, waterfalls, the appearance of a wild deer and are quite content with simply roaming the map for hours on end, this game is likely for you. I also recently read a Kotaku article on ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) games, and the way it describes No Man’s Sky makes it a near perfect candidate for ASMR. You can read that article here and let me know what you think.

My experiences described here are only relevant to the Playstation 4 version of the game, not the PC version. I have heard that the PC version has experienced a few more issues, so you may struggle with these too if you’re a PC player.

You start out on a planet, and this planet will most likely be completely undiscovered and completely different to any other planet any other player will start on. This was one of the game’s initial main appeals; the entire universe is built on an ever-expanding algorithm, which means that no two players should ever have the same experience when moving through the game, making each journey a unique and individual experience. There are allegedly over 18 quintillion different planets available to discover in the No Man’s Sky universe, most with with their own evolved plants and animals. You can scan plants and animals you encounter and upload your discoveries to the No Man’s Sky servers; other people will be able to see your names if they ever come across your planet so you have to be a bit creative with the names. The aim of the game is to get to the centre of the universe by building hyperdrives within each star system you encounter and moving on to the next. I still don’t know what happens when you reach the goal, but I’ve seen rumours that it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

My Experience

I personally find the game to be quite beautiful and have spent a long time just wandering the landscapes. One planet I came across had very pretty colours and another had a lot of cacti that looked like they were having a little party, so I named the planet “Cactus Party” of course.

Cactus Party! See what I did there…?

I found this aspect of the game like wandering through Skyrim and marvelling at a particularly stunning landscape view you happen across. I took a few vista videos of some of my planets which you can see below.

Stranger Things – Fan Art

September 17, 2016

by Gabriel Soares C. Viana

Stranger Things was one of those series that brings you right back to your childhood (kids from the 80’s of course). With all the elements I always loved from the 80’s; Winona Ryder, the fashion, the moody synth from the opening track, all the 80’s classics in the soundtrack and of course, the influences. Very nostalgic!

It definitely seems like movies such as “The Goonies”, “E.T”,”Alien”, “Carrie”, “The Evil Dead”, “Silent Hill”, “Poltergeist” etc… were a rather inspired choice of basis the Duffer brothers used for Stranger Things.

As with all series that really blows its’ fans mind, there are those really talented fans that use the show as inspiration for their art. I chose my favourites that I found around the web, check these incredible illustrations out.

Pokemon fan art

Pokemon fan art

In light of the mass spread of the new Pokemon Go App it was only a matter of time for some fan art to follow. I was waiting in anticipation for something cool however I wasn’t expecting this. This Pokemon fan art takes those adorable little creatures and turn them into something a tad more aggressive. Massive credit to J. R. Coffron and friends for these “PokeMonstrosities” as they call them.

The Pokemon fan art shows the vicious side to these and of course my favourite definitely is the demonic Pikachu, above. Although it is demonic, the vibrant electricity mixed with the terrifying details makes this absolutely kick-ass!

Lip art by Jazmina Daniel

September 9, 2016

Different from many of the Youtubers and make-up bloggers in the big wave out there, Lip art by Jazmina Daniel from Sydney goes that one step further. She designs and paints movie classics scenes on her lips, and the results are incredible. With 900k followers on Instagram, her creations include Lion King, Shark, Harry Potter and others. She uses a lot of gradient and licking effect on the lips, which is incredible!

She also gives tutorials on her Youtube channel teaching how to create some designs using brushes, lipstick, glitters and eye shadow.

The photography in these pictures are my second favourite element with the first obviously being the art itself. The care that Jazmina takes to photograph in the best light magnificently accentuates the details. Continue Reading…

#The100DayProject – Felt Creatures

August 22, 2016

Becky Margraf, a community Manager at DIY.org based in San Francisco CA, created these adorable creatures in her #The100DayProject, and their smiley faces bring a little bit of happiness and a smile to my face.

She decided to hand-sew little felt faces over 100 consecutive days as part of a wider project. She completed #The100DayProject and shared her felt creatures everyday on her Dribbble. The results were magnificent…

#The100DayProject #The100DayProject #The100DayProjectAll the details of the creatures are immaculate, they’re all as adorable as each other. The attention she took photographing each with a contrasting background is just fantastic and makes them even more adorable. I wish she would put them for sale.

Check out more of her other DIY works on her website Feltbeasts. There’s not a shop yet, but fingers crossed. Continue Reading…

Toy Story Van’s

Toy Story Van's

Photos from a private Instagram this week revealed a new Toy Story Van’s line and I am very excited.

It looks like Vans have teamed up with Disney and Pixar to create a Toy Story inspired fashion line. The classic Toy Story film franchise has been begging for this to happen and it’s about time. I didn’t know it until I saw them but I need these in my life…

Toy Story Van's Toy Story Van's Toy Story Van's

The Toy Story Van’s line contains trainers, shoes and backpacks and have based the designs on the characters Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Bo Peep, and more.

The adorable Aliens with Buzz pattern glows in the dark. I want them to make the “ooo” sound like they do in the film, but that might be too much.

All of the shoes have the handwritten name “Andy” on the bottom of them. I absolutely adore the shoes at the top of the page, I will definitely be feeling like Woody soon enough.

Whilst there is no news of an official release date yet, rumour has it we’ll be seeing them this autumn.  Those, like me, wishing to get their hands on a pair will have to wait for a price announcement but I’m sure it won’t be that much. I think I’d be happy to part with a little bit of cash to indulge a bit of nostalgia.

The only thing that has been shared about the Toy Story Van’s line is the pictures published. All I know is that I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair!

Update! – you can now browse these shoes in the US Vans store here. They’ll be available in November this year!

Suicide Squad Fashion Collection

August 7, 2016
Suicide Squad Fashion Collection

I love the new and exclusive Suicide Squad Fashion Collection created by Hot Topic, it is amazing! Hot Topic partnered with Warner Bros on behalf of DC Entertainment and launched the new line on July 22nd and is now available in the Hot topic stores and on their website.

I have found that the Suicide Squad Fashion Collection is mostly inspired by DC Comics characters Harley Quinn and the Joker with some Katana items available. It features over 15 pieces for guys and girls, including a variety of clothing. These include sweaters, dresses, skinny jeans and more. You can get most sizes in-store but you can only find the plus-sizes online.

American Horror Story Season 6

August 3, 2016

American Horror Story Season 6American Horror Story season 6 is on the way and has been one of my favourite series since the beginning. I am really looking forward to the next season.

It has been announced that the first episode will premiere on September 14 and there are some changes. It is very unusual, compared to previous seasons, that there will only be 10 episodes when the others all had 12. It’s also strange that American Horror Story Season 6 premieres in September when previous seasons have premiered in October.

American Horror Story Season 6

They have released some teasers for the next season; you can watch them in the video below. This time they took much longer to reveal what the subject of the new season will be. This allowed space for a lot of rumours as the only thing the show’s co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk would give away was that they “would incorporate 2 different ideas they had”, “set in two time periods but principally in the present”, and “children will play a significant part of the plot”.
